Otsego District Library’s “Build a Better World” summer reading program will launch Saturday, June 17.
From 10 a.m. to noon, youth will be able to sign up for the construction-themed program, which offers two sets of prizes, the birth-through-fifth-grade group and for older children.
The younger group sets personal goals for the number of days they plan to read, between 20 and 40. Participants may read anything they want for as long as they like, and they’ll track their success on a world map.
Those who meet their goal receive a Finisher Prize Bag suitable for all construction workers and are entered in a drawing for three grand prizes:
• Legoland and Aquarium Getaway: includes a one-night stay at a hotel in Auburn Hills; four passes for Legoland Discovery Center and Sea Life Aquarium; and a $50 gas card.
• Rebounderz Package: four all-access unlimited passes worth $100 plus a $50 gift card for Rebounderz in Jenison
• Lego Shopping Spree: for Legos worth $100
Children may be signed up though July 8.
Teens and tweens who read 10 books or more over six weeks can enter for a second set of those grand prizes.
The last day to enter is July 29. Winners will be announced Monday, July 31.
The library will have building-themed events and activities all summer long. Younger children win prizes each time they check out books. They can also play the library’s weekly game or attend a program to have a chance to win a weekly prize.
For teens and tweens, they can get involved in community projects, meet local authors, and create art. There will also be weekly trivia games with prize drawings.
The library is at 401 Dix St. For more information call (269) 694-9690 or visit www.otsegolibrary.org.
