Township approves new credit union site

Otsego Township will see a new credit union branch after the township board approved a site plan.

The site plan, approved Monday, July 10, was for a new Arbor Credit Union branch to be located at 1386 M-89.

Township clerk Joan Squibbs said, “They’ve moving from the WalMart plaza; the bought the ECCU branch there.

“I think it’s so they can have a drive though, there.”

The new Arbor branch would be between the current Auto Zone and Jessie’s Party Store, on a parcel that’s currently unoccupied and wooded.

Squibbs said the plan showed the back of the business would be screened from people living in the trailer park.

“They won’t remove the trees back there, so it will still screen the trailer park,” she said.

The township planning commission recommended approval of the plan.

The plan calls for an approximately 3,200 square foot one story building and a 30-space parking lot.

The back of the property will have a retention pond, which township board member Rick Moll asked about a fence around. Squibbs said the pond was designed to be sloping to a maximum depth of four feet and the plans didn’t appear to expect much runoff from the small parking lot. State highway regulations required it so the business wouldn’t be pushing additional water onto M-89.

The builders said the Arbor Credit Union branch would look very similar to the one in Three Rivers, Squibbs said.

Board member Karen Burns moved to approve the plan, seconded by board member Matt McPherson, and the board approved it unanimously.
