Plainwell city officials still hope to find the graffiti artists who tagged several spots around the city a few weeks ago.

No recent tagging has happened, city manager Erik Wilson told city council members at their Monday, July 10, meeting.

Vandals had also destroyed all of the flower baskets along the railing over of the M-89 bridge over the Kalamazoo River near Sherwood Park.

City officials said they had received a few leads after posting the search to social media, but none of them have actually led to the culprit.

Social media app Snapchat, has been making the search more complicated as young people have used it to post pictures of graffiti and followers have incorrectly thought that meant they’d done it and called police.

City manager Erik Wilson said, “It’s a matter of time before the ‘artists’ strike again.”

The city is offering a $550 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the individual or individuals responsible for the vandalism.

According to a city Facebook post, Joe’s Pizza and two residents have contributed $100 each to the city’s reward.

The post also said, “We are asking everyone to keep their eyes and ears open and help us stop this continued vandalism.”

Anyone with information should call Plainwell public safety at (269) 685-9858
