A Plainwell man was shot and killed Saturday, Sept. 23, in Prairieville Township.
The Barry County Sheriff’s Office identified him as Brian Douglas Reed, 46.
The sheriff’s office said they’d responded to the report of a man with a gunshot wound at a place on Burchette Road about 1:52 a.m.
Deputies and paramedics from Pride Care EMS worked to save Reed’s life, police said, but he died of his injuries.
Police said a person of interest was taken into custody not long after the shooting.
Monday, Sept. 25, the sheriff’s office said the person of interest had been released from custody pending the outcome of the investigation, which was continuing. His name, they said, would be withheld while the investigation was ongoing.
