George Bliss Doster, 96, passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2019, at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. George was born June 13, 1922, in Kalamazoo, the son of George Dewey and Gladys (Bliss) Doster.
A lifelong resident of Doster, George attended country schools and graduated from Plainwell High School in 1939. George was a graduate of Michigan State College-Farmers Short Course in 1941. George was proud to be a full-time farmer all of his life. He was a charter member of the Doster Community Reformed Church and served as an elder for many years.
George served on the Plainwell School Board for 25 years, missing only one meeting. George had a strong character, he was an honest and fair dealer, who always said he judged a person “based on who you were, not what you had.”
George will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Eloise H. (Burden) Doster; six children, Rita (John) Wells, George Scott Doster, Millard Doster, Jade (Bill) Harrington, Kim (Nancy Jo) Doster, and Mark Doster; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Dan (Erin) Roth; sisters; and a brother.
George’s family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Doster Community Reformed Church where his memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Private burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions to Doster Community Reformed Church or Rose Arbor Hospice Residence will be appreciated.
