Shirley M. Drake, of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at the age of 88.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Marvin Drake; sons, Tim Drake and Mark (Patricia) Drake; two grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Drake; sister, Marie Marquedant; as well as five nieces and three nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Kenneth Heintzelman of Washington and Evelyn Heintzelman Archer of Ionia; and one nephew.
Shirley was born to Charles and Mary Alice (Ridge) Heintzelman on Oct. 24, 1931, in Delhi Township, Mich. She is a graduate of Leslie High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
Shirley and Marvin raised their sons in Plainwell, where she also worked alongside her husband with an accounting business. In her subsequent moves to Florida, Spring Arbor and Jackson, she engaged in social and community activities. Whether she was square dancing, arranging bridge, taking time for fellowship at church, sharing a favored dish at the potluck, or singing in the Vista Grande Chorus, she offered her friendship to others. She loved to travel near and far and enjoyed many a happy adventure in the RV.
A memorial service to honor her life will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, at The Grande Room, Vista Grande Villa, 2251 Springport Road, Jackson, MI 49202, (517) 787-0222. Donations in her name are suggested to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or Christian Appalachian Foundation.
