There are four candidates running for the three open, nonpartisan seats on the Otsego City Commission.

The City of Otsego staggers term size based on the outcome of the election. The two candidates with the top two vote totals receive four-year terms; the candidate with the third-highest vote total receives a two-year term.

Nick J. Breedveld

Breedveld has lived in the city 27 years and has been a homeowner there 26 years. Married 41 years, he has five children and 12 grandchildren. Breedveld, a former city commissioner, works as a full-time real estate agent in the area.

“I believe in listening to the citizens of Otsego, and I will work to do the best for the city.”

Kathy Misner

incumbent

Misner has served 25 years as an Otsego City Commissioner, DDA board member and committee member for the Otsego Main Street initiative.

“Now semi-retired, I was pleased to be able to do business for 15 years in my hometown as the owner of Decorators Plus.

“As a lifelong resident of our Otsego community, I am privileged to have served on many volunteer committees, including the construction of Sylvia’s Place and fundraising to support the shelter.

“I was most honored to be a part of the Otsego Veterans Memorial Committee, from its inception to its design and construction.

“The City of Otsego has always provided a safe and friendly place to live, making it easy for me to want to ‘give back’ to my community. I remain dedicated to promoting and preserving this same quality of life.”

Cyndi Trobeck

incumbent

Trobeck has served as a commissioner for over six years in the City of Otsego. Working as a state program specialist at Amerifirst Home Mortgage, Trobeck graduated with her Bachelor of Business degree from Western Michigan University and in May 2016 she received her Master of Business Administration from Davenport University. Through Davenport, Trobeck is a member of the international honor society, Sigma Beta Delta.

“Raised in Otsego, I moved away shortly after graduating high school. Living in several states across the country, I and my husband Gary returned to Otsego in 1996 to raise our sons, Derek, Anthony and Ethan.

“Having a passion for economic development, I am proud of the steps the city has taken towards the future. During my tenure, Otsego launched the Main Street program, made infrastructure improvements and worked to maintain city services that were being threatened by declining revenue.”

Stacey Withee

incumbent

Withee was appointed to the Otsego City Commission in 2015. She has a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and has worked in the accounting field for more than 25 years. She works as a senior accountant with M&K Truck.

“When I bought my first house in 2003, I chose Otsego because it is a great small town and the one I had happy memories of growing up in.

“Through my participation as an Otsego Main Street committee chair and volunteer and as a city commissioner, I have met many wonderful residents and business owners. I want to do all I can to help Otsego meet its ongoing financial challenges and stay a vibrant, strong community for future generations.”
