It’s been said the best things in life are free.
And you probably won’t get much of an argument from Plainwell girls’ basketball coach Tim Rieman following his team’s game with Sturgis on Friday, Jan. 20.
Plainwell went 12-of-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on its 52-39 victory on its home court.
“We did a nice job at the line in the fourth quarter,” Rieman said. “That’s something we work on a lot and it allowed us to close out the game.”
For the game, Plainwell went 18-of-28 at the line. Jaylan Tran was a perfect 4-for-4, while Sara White went 6-for-8 and Sophie Monroe was 4-for-6.
White finished with a game-topping 14 points to go with a team-best eight rebounds. Monroe joined her in double figures with 11 points. She also had seven rebounds, as did Korrin Johnson.
Plainwell clung to a 19-16 lead at halftime before using a 15-5 edge in the third quarter to create some breathing room.
Plainwell played again the following evening, traveling to Dowagiac for a makeup game. Plainwell emerged with the 45-24 win.
