Defending Wolverine Conference champion Paw Paw took the top spot at the Vicksburg jamboree on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
But a pair of local teams occupied the next two spots in the standings.
Plainwell finished runner-up with a score of 682.56, while Otsego was close behind in third with a score of 675.32.
Paw Paw posted a winning score of 713.02, while Allegan placed sixth with 612.78 points.
Otsego held a 206-204.1 lead over Plainwell following the first round only to see the Trojans take a 399.76-392.52 edge into the third round.
Round three saw both teams earn scores of 282.8.
“I thought we had a solid night and our round three was probably the best I have seen them perform all season,” Plainwell coach Tracy Derhammer said. “We’ve been working hard and taking each meet as a practice for districts.
“I think at this point in the season, we are in a very good place. We have really been working on improving our timing of skills in round two and just being more consistent in that round, which we have struggled with this season. The girls are focused and really working well as a team.”
Otsego assistant coach Lyndsey Counterman was also pleased with her team’s effort.
“Despite last minute changes that we had to make Tuesday night due to an injury, the girls stayed confident and performed very well,” she said. “We started off strong in round one and finished strong in round three. They were consistent and pushed hard to keep all three rounds clean and exciting.
“Overall they did a very good job and we hope to keep moving forward and improving our scores.”
