Allegan

A Veterans Day ceremony will be at the riverfront plaza’s Veterans Memorial Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. Guest speaker will be Alice Kraatz, 12, who initiated the effort to include Michigan with other states that have a Vietnam Veterans Day. She is the second vice president of the Michigan Society of the Children of the American Revolution.

Veterans are invited to the Fraternal Order of Eagles for coffee and donuts following the ceremony.

 

Allegan General Hospital is kicking off Veterans Day weekend on Friday, Nov. 10, by offering free lunch to veterans from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at its Riverfront Café in the basement level or Fresh Start Café on the main level at 555 Linn St. No reservations are required; just stop in and order off the menu.

 

On Saturday, Nov. 11, Immanuel Lutheran Church will host a Veterans Day Recognition Luncheon for all local veterans and those still actively serving in the United States military and their spouses or significant others.

A church press release said, “This is our way of letting them know how much we appreciate their service to our country and our freedom.”

The luncheon will begin at noon at the church, 631 Grand St. in Allegan. The luncheon is free.

The menu will consist of roast turkey, dressing and all the trimmings.

 

Fennville

Fennville’s VFW Post, 2373 53rd St., is hosting a ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11. The VFW invited guests to arrive at 10 a.m.

 

Hopkins

Hopkins Public Schools is hosting a Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m. in the high school gym. 333 Clark St. The public and all veterans are welcome. There will be a keynote speaker and presentations from each school, the band and choir.

 

Otsego

A ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Memorial Park. A light community lunch will follow at VFW Post 3030, 124 N. Farmer St. If extreme weather, the event will be cancelled. For more information, call (269) 694-4615.

 

Plainwell

A Veterans Day Observance ceremony will be Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Greater Plainwell Veterans’ Memorial in Sherwood Park. The ceremony starts with a synchronized ringing of the city’s church bells. Veterans will honor the memory of their departed comrades by laying a memorial wreath at the base of the Memorial, and by presenting a traditional military rifle salute, followed by the sounding of “Taps.” The public is encouraged to attend. Those who have served from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terrorism will be honored. The ceremony is sponsored by Plainwell Memorial Post 9377, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States in cooperation with Francis E. Sanders Post 84, American Legion.

 

Pullman

VFW Post 6134 in Pullman has invited area veterans to a meatloaf dinner Saturday, Nov. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., at 5632 109th Ave. Veterans eat free; others are encouraged to donate $7. For more information, call (269) 236-5531.

 

Saugatuck

Saugatuck’s annual Veterans Day observation will be Saturday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Memorial Park on Butler Street. starting at 11 a.m.

 

Wayland

Area veterans and the public are invited to attend the annual Pine Street Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, Nov. 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. The assembly is in the Pine Street Gym, 201 Pine Street, Wayland. Students will assist in the program to honor veterans. After the program, veterans are invited for cookies, milk and coffee at the Wayland VFW Post, 735 S. Main St. There, sixth grade students will meet with the veterans to thank them for their service. The VFW is also hosting a Veteran’s dinner on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 5-7 p.m.
