James Bump, 78, of Plainwell and Tucson, Ariz., passed away on Nov. 6, 2017, at the Tucson Medical Center. Jim was born in Plainwell at the William Crispe Hospital on March 26, 1939, to Elmer and Evelyn (Lett) Bump.
Jim Bump has been revered in Plainwell as he taught high school history classes up until he retired in 1990. From 1970, he has been one-half of the Brother’s Flynn Musical Duo who entertained at several local restaurants over the years, including Jim Ryan’s, The Red Brick Inn, and Arie’s London Grille. Playing his 12-string guitar and his father’s mandolin along side his partner Phil LeMense, they have entertained many people of Southwest Michigan.
He was truly a gentleman and a scholar.
Jim’s family includes his wife of 11 years, Mary Moulder-Bump; his children, Phillip (Tambra) Bump of St. Louis, Mo.; Karen (Craig) McCormick of Plainwell; Kathleen (Rob) Lapekas of Evansville, Ind.; Grandsons, David Bump, William Bump, Garrett McCormick and Jacob Lapekas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Candy (Carlton); granddaughter Molly McCormick; and Grandson Patrick McCormick.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 11a.m. at the Plainwell First United Methodist Church, 200 Park St, Plainwell, MI 49080, with a luncheon to follow.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
